The 23rd annual laser national sailing championship began on a stormy note. Strong winds blowing up to 25 knots are testing the skills of the top sailors from across the country.
The weeklong event that began on Monday will see 86 premier sailors compete in three categories - Laser Standard, Radial and 4.7.

This is also the first time women are taking part in the championships. Of special mention are three Hyderabadi women sailors, Alekya, Faraz and Sagarika who are participating in the event.
However, the woman to watch out for is Rohini Rau, the first Indian woman to be ranked at the ISAF world rankings. Two-time Asiad bronze medallist Rajesh Chowdary, is the other star attraction in the standard category.
